On February 28, 2025, the Portuguese government announced, in the context of the new Lisbon airport to be located on the south bank, the construction of the third Tagus crossing, which will connect Chelas in Lisbon to Barreiro, by road and rail.
In line with the region's growth, Barreiro will soon have a new hospital belonging to the CUF group. Part of the Portuguese Network of Healthy Municipalities, Barreiro has the Nossa Senhora do Rosário Hospital – recognised as baby-friendly – in the city centre, four family health units and 23 pharmacies. So you can take care of your family as they deserve.
Running along the banks, playing at the beach football field, surfing the Gasoline wave in the river, gliding at the skatepark, climbing and watching the Portuguese Sea Rowing Cup. With all these sports in Barreiro the hardest thing to do is stay still.
